Critical Features for Web-to-Print Storefronts  mike icon sm 2 .gif
Speakers: Mike Caruso, Senior Director - Information Technology, Sir Speedy Scottsdale

Date/Time: Tues, 2:00 - 3:00 pm

Choosing or building Web-to-Print solutions is a complex task. A recent analysis of leading Web-to-print software by Caslon reported on over 100 features.  A successful implementation can rest on selecting the system with the right features. How does one determine which features are really critical?  The answer: ask someone who has implemented a number of systems already.

In this session Mike Caruso will share his experience researching and implementing Web-to-print systems.  For the last four years Mike has been on the leading edge of Web-to-print systems with over 30+ Web-to-Print sites and over 40,000 users and 5,000 products on a national and international basis. He currently supports 15 different print service providers with consulting, product and catalog development for their Web-to-Print applications. His experience includes converting from an Application Service Provider model to a licensed software solution.

Key Takeaways

  • Learn how to specify and evaluate Web-to-print solutions
  • Understand the IT requirements for Web-to-print
  • Discover the 7 critical features for success
  • Uncover the true ongoing costs

Web-to-Print Workflow Automation: Custom or Off the Shelf? T
Speakers: David Roberts, Development Director, Pel Hughes Printing
David Zamorski, COO, Associates Graphic Services

Date/Time: Wed, 10:15 - 11:15 am

Are you considering getting into Web-to-print or maybe even already testing the waters? Having trouble tying in your Web-to-print online orders with existing job tracking & billing systems? Need better solutions for tracking daily production? You are not alone.

In this session two leading Web-to-print pros will help you answer the question – “Can an off-the-shelf product solve my automation problems or do I need custom development?”

Pel Hughes’ AccuConnect system is a combination of off-the-shelf software and custom programming. David Roberts will discuss the challenging task of automating direct mail campaigns through this system. Dave Zamorski will provide key insights into AGS’s system that allows over 200 line items per day to be ordered, printed and shipped within 24-36 hours. Items range from sales and marketing collateral to fulfillment. Without automation, AGS would need to add 11 more people to handle the work.

Key Takeaways
  • You’ll learn when to go with off-the-shelf vs. custom solutions
  • You’ll find out how much IT expertise you really need
  • Learn the 3 things to do and the 3 things not to do when building a system
  • Get insight into how much automation really makes sense
Turning IMB and NCOA into Profits  T
Speakers: John Leininger, Professor, Clemson University

Date/Time: Wed, 11:30 - 12:30 pm

Two new USPS mandates are creating new profit opportunities for the savvy service provider. Two specific issues being addressed in this presentation are the requirements for the use of the new Intelligent Mail® barcode (IMB) and the National Change Of Address (NCOA) for both first class & standard mail. Both of these have been implemented by the USPS to reduce their processing costs. They both require extra work from the company preparing the mailing, so there is an added expense. But more importantly they have given you a marketing opportunity that you can use to improve the value added service you are offering your customer.

  • Today you can already use Confirm® Service and Address Change Service™ with the IMB and when it goes to full service in May of 2009 additional services are possible.
  • NCOA is now required (this went into effect Nov. 23, 2009) for all presorted mailings that are first class or standard mailings and you have to have prove that an NCOA matching has been done on any name within the last 95 days. The penalties for failing to comply are substantial.

Knowing how to work with some of these issues will give you a marketing message to bring to your customer that will offer them something to help their bottom line. While there are compliance issues to understand (attend the Pre-conference intensive for details) there is also an opportunity to generate new revenues and reduce costs. In this session we’ll explain how and what the Intelligent Mail® barcode and the NCOA is all about. It will also describe what you need to get started and how you can use it to market to a customer.

Key Takeaways:

  • Learn how working with the IMB and NCOA can add value to your business and your customer’s business
  • Learn how to create a simple economic analysis of working with the IMB and NCOA to show the customer how this will ultimately reduce costs and increase potential benefits
  • Understand the USPS mandates
  • What you have to do to be in compliance with NCOA and to start working with the IMB
