Critical Features for Web-to-Print Storefronts mike icon sm 2 .gif
Speakers: Mike Caruso, Senior Director - Information Technology, Sir Speedy Scottsdale

Date/Time: Tues, 2:00 - 3:00 pm

Choosing or building Web-to-Print solutions is a complex task. A recent analysis of leading Web-to-print software by Caslon reported on over 100 features.  A successful implementation can rest on selecting the system with the right features. How does one determine which features are really critical?  The answer: ask someone who has implemented a number of systems already.

In this session Mike Caruso will share his experience researching and implementing Web-to-print systems.  For the last four years Mike has been on the leading edge of Web-to-print systems with over 30+ Web-to-Print sites and over 40,000 users and 5,000 products on a national and international basis. He currently supports 15 different print service providers with consulting, product and catalog development for their Web-to-Print applications. His experience includes converting from an Application Service Provider model to a licensed software solution.

Key Takeaways

  • Learn how to specify and evaluate Web-to-print solutions
  • Understand the IT requirements for Web-to-print
  • Discover the 7 critical features for success
  • Uncover the true ongoing costs

Web-to-Print Workflow Automation: Custom or Off the Shelf?  T
Speakers: David Roberts, Development Director, Pel Hughes Printing
David Zamorski, COO, Associates Graphic Services

Date/Time: Wed, 10:15 - 11:15 am

Are you considering getting into Web-to-print or maybe even already testing the waters? Having trouble tying in your Web-to-print online orders with existing job tracking & billing systems? Need better solutions for tracking daily production? You are not alone. In this session two leading Web-to-print pros will help you answer the question – “Can an off-the-shelf product solve my automation problems or do I need custom development?”

Pel Hughes’ AccuConnect system is a combination of off-the-shelf software and custom programming. David Roberts will discuss the challenging task of automating direct mail campaigns through this system. Come hear how far they are willing to take the automation.

Dave Zamorksi of AGS will provide the key insights into how they built AGS Connect, winner of the 2008 International  CIPPI  award for “Biggest improvement in quality production & customer responsiveness as a result of process automation”.  This “lights out” automation system allows over 200 line items per day to be ordered, printed and shipped within 24-36 hours.  Items range from sales and marketing collateral, direct mail through fulfillment items. Without this automation Dave estimates they would have needed to add 11 more people to handle the work.

Key Takeaways
  • You’ll learn when to go with off-the-shelf vs. custom solutions
  • You’ll find out how much IT expertise you really need
  • Learn the 3 things to do and the 3 things not to do when building a system
  • Get insight into how much automation really makes sense
W2P: If You Build It, Will They Come?
Speakers: Jody Murphy, President, Barnett & Murphy
Bill Marchiony, CEO, First Name Basis

Date/Time: Wed, 11:30 - 12:30 pm

Ever wonder why some Web-to-print portals are successful and some are not? It’s not for a lack of technology. There’s lots of software and technology for creating branded marketing portals, Web-to-print, personalized microsites and other client-specific content. And there are lots of sites that lie fallow – unused or underused after the initial investment. Having implemented over sixty Web-to-print solutions, Jody and Bill examine some of the ways that have proven effective in driving usage and volume on these sites. Equally important, they’ll share what not to do.

The session will also address the sales and technology management techniques for identifying, researching and selling into new markets. Instead of a huge upfront investment and long lead time with the hope for good return, participants will learn how to make money while they build their Web-to-print business.

Key Takeaways

  • The top factors that drive successful implementations
  • The most common mistakes to avoid
  • Learn how to fail small and win big
  • Discover how to make money while you grow your Web-to-print business
